About SCARS

Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) is dedicated to reducing the number of homeless animals in Northern Alberta, Canada

We believe that there is a suitable home for all homeless animals: young or old; large or small.

As a volunteer-run, registered charity, we care for these animals by providing veterinary care and foster homes for animals in need until a permanent home is found. These private foster homes provide the animals with warm shelter, food, exercise, and tender loving care (something that so many of the animals we receive have never experienced).

SCARS does not practice selective intake procedures and operates in a triage manner: taking the animal in most medical need first. As a result our medical expenses are enormous. Please consider donating to our rescue efforts.

Look At Us Now!

To date, SCARS has rescued and rehomed over 3,000 animals.

Because these animals live in our homes, we deveop a very deep bond with our fosters. Many of the adoptive families keep us updated on how well their new companions are thriving in their new homes.

To all the wonderful foster homes, all the tireless volunteers, all the compassionate furever-homes: we say a heartfelt thank-you!

Please support your local rescue society and consider adoption as opposed to buying your new friend.

Puck

My name is Puck –I’m named after the trickster in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (sorry, hockey fans). My new family says it suits me just fine. Of course, Mom does get a few strange looks when she shouts my name at the park.

My new family met me at one of the adoption days held at Petsmart. They were fostering other puppies. Mom saw me and immediately new that my Dad was going to love me -she was right. And though they had agreed not to adopt a puppy at this time in their lives-Mom was 9 months pregnant - I stole their hearts.

I could play catch within a few days, walk well on and off leash and followed them both around EVERYWHERE. I even lie on the bathmat while Mom has a shower. But I am a puppy. I love to take shoes, socks and underwear and parade them past you. I love my squeaking toys and anything outside that I think is for chewing…wood from the wood pile, rocks, chewing gum from the playground. My favorite activity is gardening. I’m really talented at digging 3 feet holes in the backyard flower gardens.

But my best toy is the new baby. He is as small as my squeaky toys and makes the same sound. But don’t you worry-I haven’t eaten him yet. I just lick him silly! He seems to like it. I can’t wait until he is bigger and can play. We’re going to be best friends.

P.S. Little Jackson asked me to say “thank you SCARS” for his birthday present (I think he means me!)
