About SCARS

Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) is dedicated to reducing the number of homeless animals in Northern Alberta, Canada

We believe that there is a suitable home for all homeless animals: young or old; large or small.

As a volunteer-run, registered charity, we care for these animals by providing veterinary care and foster homes for animals in need until a permanent home is found. These private foster homes provide the animals with warm shelter, food, exercise, and tender loving care (something that so many of the animals we receive have never experienced).

SCARS does not practice selective intake procedures and operates in a triage manner: taking the animal in most medical need first. As a result our medical expenses are enormous. Please consider donating to our rescue efforts.

Look At Us Now!

To date, SCARS has rescued and rehomed over 3,000 animals.

Because these animals live in our homes, we deveop a very deep bond with our fosters. Many of the adoptive families keep us updated on how well their new companions are thriving in their new homes.

To all the wonderful foster homes, all the tireless volunteers, all the compassionate furever-homes: we say a heartfelt thank-you!

Please support your local rescue society and consider adoption as opposed to buying your new friend.

Hunter

Hi my name is Hunter, I was one on Nicky’s puppies. The picture on the left is one from when I was adopted back in April 06 and came home with Melissa and Todd. Things here are great and as you can see I have really grown up but I still love to play. I have lots of toys that I like to chew on, play catch with and tug of war. The best is seeing just how many I can pick up at once to bring and drop in Todd’s lap. Sometimes I leave my toys out after playing with them my Mom and Dad step on them. They make funny noises and I just smile back with my cute smile and big brown eyes, then I am irritable. I also love meeting new people especially kids. They are just the right size small like me. I am very quiet but I love to bark at the vacuum and lawn mower. I love to run and when the first snow came well I didn’t know what to think of that stuff but now WOOOHOOO! Now I run around the backyard and roll around in the snow. I love jumping in the really fluffy snow and try to bury myself in it. Then just when it seems like I am having lots of fun in the snow, out comes the shovel. I try and try to jump on it to stop the snow, it is kind of a fun game. Bark at the shovel, jump on the shovel, get in the snow pile and get showered in snow
I found that I really like to take baths as well. Sometimes when my Mom runs the bath for herself I run and jump in cause I think it’s for me. Mom says that when it gets hot outside again she will take me swimming in a REALLY big bath tub. I really like going for car rides. I guess I am an all around loveable guy. I even figured out this whole giving hugs and kisses thing. Stand up and put your front paws on someone’s shoulders then gently nuzzle your nose on their neck.
I have thought about my brothers and sisters and hope they are all as happy as me. Soon it will be our 1st Birthday!!! Happy Birthday March 8th!
