About SCARS

Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) is dedicated to reducing the number of homeless animals in Northern Alberta, Canada

We believe that there is a suitable home for all homeless animals: young or old; large or small.

As a volunteer-run, registered charity, we care for these animals by providing veterinary care and foster homes for animals in need until a permanent home is found. These private foster homes provide the animals with warm shelter, food, exercise, and tender loving care (something that so many of the animals we receive have never experienced).

SCARS does not practice selective intake procedures and operates in a triage manner: taking the animal in most medical need first. As a result our medical expenses are enormous. Please consider donating to our rescue efforts.

Look At Us Now!

To date, SCARS has rescued and rehomed over 3,000 animals.

Because these animals live in our homes, we deveop a very deep bond with our fosters. Many of the adoptive families keep us updated on how well their new companions are thriving in their new homes.

To all the wonderful foster homes, all the tireless volunteers, all the compassionate furever-homes: we say a heartfelt thank-you!

Please support your local rescue society and consider adoption as opposed to buying your new friend.

Hunter

HI my name is Hunter. I have been in my new home now for about a week. Boy oh boy have I been busy! I didn't like my first car ride too much, I got sick. I think it was cuz I missed my brothers and sisters and especially mom, Nicky.

I just want you all to know I am doing great! I love it here. We go for long walks every night. There is this really cool lake by my house that I love to jump into... I think I scared my new mommy when I did it the first time. I love the water so much that I try to jump in the shower. I had to have my first bath when I got home cuz I got dirty after I got sick, so I dunno what the big deal is!
I have learnt how to sit pretty for treats and starting to ask to go outside for pee and poop breaks. I am still not too sure what to think of the big backyard. I like to have company out there and let my new mom and dad know when I have had enough.... I think the neighbours hear me too...oh well. I have lots of new toys and we play with them so much that I just get plain tuckered out!! Mom lets me curl up with her on the couch and we have some snuggle time before bed. I have my own bed that I sleep in and I could sleep all night if it wasn't for those darn pee breaks. Dad says I am doing REALLY good sleeping in my own BIG BOY bed... he says it's cuz mom hogs most of the bed already anyway.
They have taken lots of pictures of me. I have been to visit some new friends both people (big and little) and other four legged ones, we get along GREAT! More love for me! I also like playing with LUCKY... He is a golden lab/husky cross that comes to visit lots. I guess he is friends with my new family.
The vet says I am going to be a big boy, I already weight 13 1/2 lbs and am 14" tall @ 9 1/2 weeks old.
I gotta go cuz it is almost time for my walk.
I want to say hi to my mom and my brothers and sisters.....I miss you. I hope you are as happy as I am. Maybe we will run into each other some day!
And one more thing....a HUGE thank you to Maria for taking such good care of me, I miss you and won't forget you. Maybe you can visit, I'll check with mom first so she can clean up my toys for company.
LOVE and kisses,
HUNTER....oh yeah and Melissa and Todd say HI too.
